ASX Accident Report
On Sunday, July 13, 2025, a fatal accident occurred involving a Polish-built SZD-54-2 Perkoz two-seat glider, registration D-6401, operated by the LSV Hayingen e.V. gliding club. The accident took place in the afternoon in the Digelfeld nature reserve area, located near the Hayingen glider airfield in the Reutlingen district of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. According to eyewitness reports, the glider was returning from a flight when it abruptly entered a steep nose-down attitude and descended rapidly. It impacted terrain within a protected conservation area, prompting an immediate emergency response. First responders, including 24 members of the Hayingen fire department and law enforcement personnel, secured the crash site and initiated an investigation. The sole occupant, a 58-year-old female pilot from the local area, was pronounced dead at the scene. No passengers were onboard.
Investigators from the Tübingen police, supported by aviation authorities, began examining the wreckage and environmental conditions, but by the evening of the crash, no definitive cause had been released. Weather conditions in the area were reportedly stable at the time of the flight, and no radio distress calls were logged. Initial assessments indicated that the glider may have encountered a sudden aerodynamic stall or control anomaly while on final approach or during maneuvering flight. The aircraft’s manufacturer, Allstar PZL Glider of Bielsko-Biała, had no immediate comment. The investigation is ongoing, and the glider has been removed for forensic examination.
