Quick Reference Handbook (QRH) is a concise, easy-to-use manual kept in the cockpit that provides pilots with procedures for handling non-normal and emergency situations, as well as performance data corrections for specific conditions.

Purpose

The QRH serves as a quick-access reference for pilots facing unexpected problems or emergencies during flight.

Content

It contains checklists and procedures for various abnormal and emergency conditions, including system malfunctions, and performance data corrections.

Format

QRHs are designed for quick reference, often using a question-and-answer format or a search procedure to help pilots quickly find the relevant information.

Integration

For aircraft with an ECAM/EICAS (Electronic Centralized Aircraft Monitoring/Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System), the QRH is used in coordination with or as a backup to it.

Importance

The QRH is a vital tool for pilots, reducing workload and ensuring that critical steps are not overlooked under stress, thereby enhancing safety.

Examples

Checklists for various situations, such as trim runaways, engine fire, and emergency descent, are included in the QRH.

Updates

QRHs are regularly reviewed, updated, and revised to incorporate the latest and best practices.

Other names

Sometimes referred to as an "abnormal checklist" or "non-normal checklist."
