ASX Accident Report

On July 15, 2025, a light sport aircraft identified as an Aerospool WT-9 Dynamic, registration YR-5259, was involved in a fatal accident near Orăștie in Hunedoara County, Romania. The aircraft, reportedly piloted by Sorin Bochiș, a former commercial pilot from Timișoara, had one passenger onboard. Eyewitnesses and local emergency response agencies confirmed that the crash occurred near a recreational area outside the city limits. Emergency services from ISU Hunedoara - including SMURD ambulances, a county ambulance unit, and an extrication vehicle - were dispatched promptly. Upon arrival, both occupants were found trapped in the wreckage. The pilot was declared deceased on the site. The passenger was unconscious but stabilized and transported in critical condition to the Orăștie Emergency Unit.

Preliminary reports indicate that the aircraft may have collided with a zip line cable during flight, which likely contributed to or directly caused the uncontrolled descent. This is supported by initial on-scene observations and statements made by local news agencies, though the cause remains under official investigation. The aircraft came down abruptly in an area adjacent to a local leisure facility, raising concerns about potential airspace obstructions and awareness of ground installations. The Aerospool WT-9 Dynamic is a composite, low-wing, light sport aircraft commonly used for recreational and training purposes.

Weather conditions on the day of the flight appeared to be stable, with no significant meteorological phenomena reported in the immediate area, shifting focus toward mechanical, human, or environmental obstructions as primary contributing factors. Romanian civil aviation authorities, together with law enforcement and emergency personnel, initiated a formal inquiry to determine the exact sequence of events and identify all contributing causes. The presence of zip lines will likely be a focal point of the investigation, as will standard operational procedures and pre-flight planning by the crew.
