ASX Accident Report

On April 28, 2025, a Cessna 182D Skylane registered as LV-HTM, operated by Skydive Neuquén, was involved in an accident at Aeroclub Allen in the Río Negro Province of Argentina. The aircraft was conducting a low-altitude flight during takeoff operations intended for parachuting activities when it struck a flight instructor positioned near the runway who was recording the maneuver. The impact resulted in the instructor's death at the scene. There were three occupants aboard the aircraft, a couple from Cipolletti, who were transported to Ernesto Accame Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the pilot. The woman sustained minor injuries, while the pilot was not physically injured but was reported to be in shock.

The Cessna 182D involved in the accident was manufactured in 1961 and had been utilized extensively for parachuting operations due to its robust construction, high-wing configuration, and short-field performance capabilities. During the takeoff phase at Aeroclub Allen, the aircraft reportedly flew at low altitude over a dirt runway, a common practice for promotional or parachuting maneuvers. While performing a low pass, the aircraft's landing gear struck the instructor, identified as Juan Francisco Molla Klein, who was filming the operation. The collision resulted in the detachment of one propeller blade and damage to the landing gear, leading to a loss of control.

Following the collision, the aircraft descended rapidly and crash-landed near a garbage dump adjacent to the aerodrome. The airplane overturned and came to rest inverted, sustaining substantial damage to its structure. Emergency services were dispatched promptly, and both surviving occupants received immediate medical attention. Local law enforcement and aviation authorities secured the crash site for investigation, and an inquiry was launched to determine the sequence of events and contributing factors leading up to the impact and subsequent crash.

Preliminary indications suggest that a combination of low-altitude operation, proximity of ground personnel to the active flight path, and possible operational misjudgment during a low pass maneuver contributed to the accident. Authorities are examining whether mechanical failure of the landing gear or propeller system prior to the collision may have played a role, although no definitive conclusions have yet been reported. The aircraft was bound for San Carlos de Bariloche International Airport and was operating privately under parachuting service activities at the time of the accident.
